My name is Troy and I’m a labor and employment attorney with the law firm of Ford & Harrison in Phoenix, Arizona. Before becoming a lawyer, I worked in Human Resources for several years and understand your pain! In my new role, I represent management in companies that have been sued by their employees and former employees. Just as importantly, I spend a significant amount of time counseling companies on avoiding lawsuits and providing managers with training on how to comply with various federal and state employment laws.

To unwind a bit (and after sending our three kids to bed), my wife and I plant ourselves in front of the TV on Thursdays to watch NBC’s hit “The Office.” Though I’m generally not one to bring work home, this hilarious study of an office environment sometimes reminds me of my telephone calls at work. Yes, there are real Michael Scott’s out there! Each episode gives us an opportunity - not only to laugh, but to take an HR lesson or two away from the antics.

This blog, “That’s What She Said” (Michael Scott’s trademark punch line), provides that lesson. And, I estimate just how much Dunder Mifflin would have to pay in a real lawsuit.
